The Never IdleStory

Never Idle offers the industry its first fully-managed, contractor-to-contractor equipment rental and sales marketplace for construction and industrial equipment. It’s not an equipment “Airbnb,” where contractors must put aside their own time and effort to make arrangements with each other. Instead, Never Idle handles all the details and communication between parties so contractors can focus on their job.

Never Idle’s mission is to convert equipment not currently in use by its owner into a profit center, freeing up contractors to focus on their core business of earning new projects, submitting bid proposals, and delivering projects on time and on budget. Contractors on the user-end of the rental or buying process – those in need of equipment – are assured easy delivery of rental equipment from within the Never Idle network.

Never Idle took on the tasks of figuring out insurance options, financing options, even delivery options, and then created user-friendly website tools and a smartphone app to make the rental process smooth and easy.

Having worked in the heavy equipment industry for 20 years, Never Idle President, Terry Dolan, knew there had to be a better way to handle buying and selling heavy equipment. He earned a reputation as an agent of change in various roles in the field, always looking for innovative solutions to meet his customer’s needs. Never Idle is the result of his concentrated effort to learn from contractors how to make equipment buying, selling and renting better for all parties involved.

Terry said, “Contractors told me outright: As a business owner, I am never idle. So why does my equipment have to be? That’s how Never Idle was born.”

Before founding Never Idle, Terry held top executive positions with Case, Ingersoll Rand, Generac and most recently was the President of U.S. and Latin America business for Ritchie Brothers Auctioneers.

The Story Behind the Logo

Even the company’s appearance reflects values important to contractors. “Our logo is a bucket and gears to represent movement, industry and working hard moving dirt,” Terry said. “Even the Never Idle colors signify what contractors feel is important. The green stands for profits, growth and safety. Dark blue is the color of trust, integrity and professionalism. We want to convey that Never Idle is a reliable business made up of a vast Network of contractors and we work solely on their behalf.”

After earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Management, with emphasis on entrepreneurship from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, Zach joined Ritchie Bros Auctioneers. During his 10 years of experience in heavy equipment sales, purchase and online brokerage, he built strong relationships throughout the industry, paying close attention to industry trends and new challenges facing his customers. He founded FleetRight, Inc. in 2015 –  the first online community marketplace and auction platform for buying and selling heavy equipment in Lincoln, Nebraska. The FleetRight base of contractors that started in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois quickly reached across the nation and even overseas. Zach said joining forces with Never Idle now gives all contractors access to a greater inventory of assets and offers asset owners the most efficient platform and tools for managing their underutilized equipment.

David leads product development, ensuring Never Idle delivers a world-class web and mobile experience. Having designed and implemented data and software products, David brings over 20 years of experience building and leading top-performing teams in the construction, trucking, and equipment manufacturing industries. He also has been a team member and leader in sales, marketing, product management, and operation functions for many products that include Randall-Reilly’s EDA, RigDig and Top Bid. David received his MBA from the University of Texas at Arlington.
